Before entering the car, candidates are asked two questions regarding vehicle maintenance, these are known as "Show Me / Tell Me" questions. Any question answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault being recorded. During the test as a whole, those who are successful must make less than 16 minor ‘driver’ faults and stay clear from anything deemed to be serious or dangerous.

Whilst in the car and driving there’s a requirement to perform 1 set manoeuvre, sometimes an emergency stop and show an overall ability to deal with modern day motoring. They’ll be 10 minutes set aside within the 40 minute framework for a new ‘Independent Driving’ section, the idea is to follow road signs towards a set destination whilst continuing to demonstrate safe routines and positioning.
